Instead, I want something that will only backup the folders I specify. Sure I can tell it to ignore folders, but you have to do this whenever new data is created. I've got way too many TBs of data to be able to just let it do that. So whatever I use to backup from the clients to the server has to be done using a method I can control and can be read by other apps so it can be backed up remotely as well. Eg, many VMs that if they got deleted I wouldn't miss a lot. I have way too much data to back it up all remotely - and a lot of it I don't need another copy of. From there, they either remain on the server alone, or also backed up remotely. Some of that is backed up locally only, and some if it is backed up remotely.īackup - which I use CCC for - are files on client machines that are backed up to the server. I have categorized my data into multiple types:Īrchive is the only copy and I actually use TM to back it up to another drive. and finding what you want without the spacey interface is nearly impossible. Moving around items on the backup drive can really mess things up. You can select items that you DO NOT want backed up with TM, but there's that proprietary arrangement on the backup drive to deal with. I just read about their license, and it works as I would expect - making it a fraction of the cost of CCC. Plus I'd pick a little clunky over dropping a couple hundred bucks. I don't want to backup everything, just specific things. (not a slam, I mean that in the past, it just has not worked for your environment). I'd say Time Machine, only you seem incapable of using it as it was designed. The backed up data shouldn't be stored in any sort of proprietary or other format that can't be easily navigated via the Finder. Should be able to manually run backups as well I need to be able to pick and choose exactly which directories get backed up, and to where, when and how often. The backups need to be incremental and there needs to be some sort of configurable pruning Run automated backups from one Mac to another While the personal license would work, since I've got a business, I have to pay $$$. Since I use it for my own business (of which I'm the only employee), I have to pay for a license for each computer it's on. I contacted them to ask about a license change or clarification, but didn't hear back. Kinda sad to have to move away from CCC, but it's way too expensive for me anymore. ![]()
